Holm Oak characteristics:
For this exercise I've chosen to study the Holm Oak, a large evergreen tree native to the Mediterranean region. It takes its name from holm, an ancient name for holly. It is a member of the white oak section of the genus, with acorns that mature in a single summer. Its height can reach 20-25 meters.
The old leaves fall 1-2 years after new leaves emerge. The leaves are dark green above and pale whitish-grey with dense shrort hairs below.
Holm Oak grows in pure stands or mixed forest in relatively arid climates and often at low or moderate elevations.
How to create the mass family:
In order to have a "parametric tree" which can be modified later on, we have to create a NEW document, than select FAMILY, CONCEPTUAL MASS and MASS. Now, as usual, form MANAGE tab we select Project Units and set them to meters. From MODEL tab we select Level and add some more and then change their names in Log, Crown base, Crown middle and Crown top, or if the tree is more colpex we can add some more levels. We also select theis heights.
After that, we start creating our log by creating a circumference which has radius=1m. By extruding this circumference we have aour log which is 3m high.
Now we have to creater other circumferences for every level of the tree crown.
Now that we have all the circumferences alligned, we select them all by holding ctrl and then with the command CREATE FORM we have our finished mass.
As last thing we can add the height values using the cammand Aligned Dimension from the MODIFY tab.
