Teamwork

How did you create the multisciplinary team?

We tried to avoid the mistake of looking just for skills, without considering relational attitude and the real motivation of people.

We looked first of all for people that would share our idea and our effort to consider Mediterranean not just as an architectural or technological model but as a way of life. In addition, we wanted people that would care more for the overall aim of the project than look for personal visibility and reputation. The temptation to enter the team just to add lines to the CVs is very high since many members of the team belong to the Academy, and this kind of behaviour could also damage teamwork. Thanks to this selection, based on friendship, the team is now well formed and has a collaborative atmosphere.  This empaty helps the team to attract external consultants to cover aspects that cannot be totally controlled internally.

Concerning the students we have a small team involded since the proposal, who will remain until the end of the SDE, developing thanks to this project the final thesis. Then for every deliverable we look for students who can solve specific problems. For example we wrote a call for students who would work on the model. The students who answer to the call were involved and received specific credits for this activity.

Uniqueness

It might sound weird to say, but we believe that first uniqueness of our team is Italianity. All the team members are Italian and so belong to our long history and culture. This involves a wide meaning of design: It means food, fashion, industrial design and furniture, architecture, traditions, as well asway of life, dolcevita. And all that contributes to the team working process.

We have to underline also that we involved an artist, a painter that will produce a fresco expressly for the house. This artist works with the local sands, integrating his workwith the regional chromatism. In the model we put a fresco that employs the Madrid sands. The interesting aspect is that the work of art, thanks to the sand, will also contribute to the acoustic and to the passive behavior of the house. In particular, cause we decide to have heavy walls able to accumulate heating, the fresco on the walls helps to avoid that the users can furnish the walls. Free walls work better as heating accumulators.
