Es 1_Lab 6_Solar Analysis_ Via Giacomo Noventa, Rome_Leili Soltani

PROCESS

After create a new project on Vasari, you have to click on 'Manage' and then on 'project units' for change the units from inches to meters.
In order to work more easily , change the view by clicking always on 'Manage' and set the Orthographic view.
Before drawing, find your location and put your adress after having clicked on 'Set location' as you can see on the pic 1, then import the image of the map (pic 2). Now you can start to draw the model: click on 'Model' and on 'Crate Mass' and use the shapes (pic 3.), then, to finish your Mass, click on 'Finsh Mass' (pic 4) and you'll have the model on which you can work (pic 5).
For the solar analysis first of all click on the little sun bottom left on 'Sun Setting'  and on 'Sun Path on' ,always bottom left, and choose the date and the time in which you want to analize the building and his shadow; to see the shadows click on 'Shadows on' (pic 6).
You can take some pictures of the buildings and of his shadows on Vasari just by clicking on 'Manage' and then on 'Camera' and positioning the camera as you prefer (pic 7); if you take the same pictures in reality you can see that the shadows are similar to the shadows that you have on Vasari.

ANALYSIS

My study area is located in Via Giacomo Noventa, in the Laurentina district situated in the South of Rome. Even if the building is not isolated, it is not screen on the south-eastern side as you can see on the real and Vasari's pictures. The building's orientation is almost precisely on the axis south-east and north-west and this affects the internal of the houses in the building. Infact on the side south-east, that in summer is the hotter side between them, are located all the services like the bathroom and the kitchen. On the north-western side the building is screen by the near building as you can see from the pictures, and this allows to have, during the summer, the living area and the room almost cold.
I've done a study of the shadows, taking real picures and Vasari's pictures in different hours and days (13th, 14th, 15th March at 8.30 a.m, 1.30 p.m, 4.30 p.m.) showing the validity of the internal positioning. The different pictures shows how the south-east side is never screened (pic 10, 13, 14), besides, the pic. 10 shows how my building, during the morning, screen a part of the building near. The other pictures 9,12 and 16 shows how the north-west side is always screenedor just because the sun is on the south-west side or because, during the afternoon, the building near screen it (pic 9, 12, 16).
