The target of this exercise is to show how Autodesk Vasari Project software can help us to achieve a larger knowledge about the solar exsposion of the building's facades. Whit Vasari we can know immediatly what are the better facades for specific functions of our building and understeand clearly where the other volumes removes light from our building, on every day of the year.
For this exercise i will draw very simple volumes to describe buildings; instead the importance matter is that i will place them on spefic coordinate to have very sensible data about lights and shadows.
1)First I open Vasari and set my units from Imperial to Metric, from menu MANAGE by clicking Project Units.
Now I set the location of my site. By ANALYZE menu I click on Location. A window now is open and here i can choose my location, directly from the map. Now click on import image site and Vasari will place the image on workspace.
We can draw our buildings. Select menu MODEL and click on create mass. Then we can choose from a wide range of tools to create our buildings. I choose line tool to draw the perimeters of my volumes. When i done this i select one by one poligones and extrude them by trail the mouse arrow on the blue lines that Vasari will show above the closed lines.
4)When my buildings are finished i can finally analyze the model in particularly days and hours. Go to MANAGE menu and click on Sun Settings. Vasari will open a window that shows u the kind of analysis and time that u want to use, choosing days and hours. I want to do some temporary images, all placed in the 16th March at time of 9 AM, 12 AM, 14 PM and 16 PM. To do this i will click on Still Solar Study and then choose a different time for any image i will do.
5) Now we chose the kind of analysis and the hours we want, but we cannot see lights and shadows... dont worry! We have to go on horizontal bar on the bottom on the screen and choose Sun Path On and Shadows On. We have finally our model to explore and study, placed in the Earth and the chance to change hour and days as we like.
