Vasari’s Modeling
I used the same 3D model that I created for the first exercise.
The first step was to build the ground under the buildings (command create mass), so that i could see the projected shadow and analyze also the way my building interacts with the streets.
The second step was to add details to my 3d. I added the molding and the balconies (command create mass) that are the only architectural parts of the building that could affect the solar radiation.
The third step was to use the command Solar Radiation to see how my building is irradiated from the sun throughout the winter and summer seasons.
Pre-Vasary Analysis
Before I analyzing the results of my modeling in Vasari I tried to theorize what the results could be to see if the study that I did in the first exercise was useful. I thought by the movement of the sun that the West prospect was much less heated in comparison to the South one. So the rooms with that overlooking on the West prospect should be cooler. The roof should be bright yellow since is the hottest part of the building and there isn’t anything so high to cover it. Any time of the day is almost impossible to stand for more than 10 minutes on the roof. Infact many people use it to dry clothes.
Winter Study
As we can see in the picture my theory was correct. The roof is yellow, which I think is not a bad thing in the winter season. The flats on the last floor in winter should have a good temperature inside since their cealing is constantly heated by the sun. The South prospect is also half yellowish and half red wich is quite good. The first three floors are red becasue the building on the other side of the road cover it from the sun, since my building is taller than the others the last two floors are shadow free. As for the roof this kind of irradiation is good in winter.
The critical part is the West prospect, making all the rooms on that side much coolder than necessary.
The balconies and the molding do not affect at all the irradiation of the building, they are to small to cover in any way the prospects.
The short (corte) is the most critical part of the building. The best prospect is the south one, the others are quite cold (fortunatly my house is on the south prospect of the short, and is high enough to get enough light in winter).
The deterioration of the building is mostly due to the fading of the paint, and is the same everywhere.
The street is not heated at all and is not a good thing in winter.
Summer Study
The situation in Summer isn't much different from the winter. The West prospect is always in the shadow and colder than the others, wichi in this case is good, since you want a colder house in the summer. The South prospect is red, so the temperature is not too high, but since is summer it isn't good becasue the rooms on that side get very hot, The roof is more yellow than ever, and makes living on the last floor in summer a living hell. A friend of mine lives there and he needs air conditioning 24/7.
The short get more light but with it comes the heat. In July-August the air conditioning system needs to be on a lot during the day, since the living room is really hot. My house beedroom's overlook on the north prospect of the short, and they are supposed to be a little bit colder; it's not like that, they are too hot anyway.
The street are red, it means that are too hot. Sometimes in August you can see the concrete melting under your shooes if it's too hot.
The degeneretion of the paint in both the prospect, the West one (on the left) the South one (on the right). As I said before the degeneration is the same everywhere there isn't much difference.
Picture of the balcony (on the right). There is a degeneration due to the rain that erodes the concrete of the balcony.
In the picture you can see the molding. As the balconies the molding is eroded because of the bad dreange of rain. Besaide the decoration of the molding are slowling consuming. There is a restoration project of the entire building to avoid the progressing of the degeneration.
I don't think my builing is anywhere near being in a good position. In winter a prospect is way too much cold and in summer the other prospect and the roof are too much too bare. The shorts don't help they have their own climate and in summer is really hot in there. Besides the balconies have a projection so small, 1 meter, to have any effects on covering the prospects. The molding is only to show, no use.
