2_ES - Via Pian due Torri - Solar Radiation - Michela Ridolfi

In this exercise I want to see and then study the solar radiation that affect my building
At first I opened my previous file in Vasari and I added the ground, drawing a rectangle and extruding it.
Then I added some elements that characterize my building, like balcons, opening, etc.. with the command CREATE MASS - SET - option SOLID FORM or VOID FORM. In particular I extruded balconies on the facades and I create a walkway on the ground floor.
Once I datailed my house I clicked on ANALYZE - SOLAR RADIATION, I selected with the mouse what I want to analyze and then I chose in which season I want to see the effect of solar radiation. At first I selected all summer season (21/06 - 22/09) and then the winter (21/12/13 - 22/03/14). At last I selected the option MULTI DAY and SUNRISE TO SUNSET.
I also changed the units in kw/m2 and I chose the accuracy of the analysis, increasing it to 85.

In summer the roof is very radiated by the sun, in fact I have a friend that lives on the last floor of this building and I have to say that his apartment is warmer than mine, even if we both live in the same West side of the building. The south facade is the most radiated and the balconies help in part to reduce the consequences of too much heat. The East facade is quite radiated but less than the South one: in particular the narrowness of the street create an area of shadown on the lower floor. As I sayed on the last post, my building has a court often in shadows: in winter this area in not very comfortable, exspecially for the apartments that overlook on it, but when you arrive by walking, after being in the hot sun of summer in Rome, this place is very pleasant and fresh! I was surpised to see that in this time of the year the West side is not so much radiated, beause in summer I have to hold down sun blinds on my balcon every day!

SUMMER SOLAR STUDY: The scale reaches 407,5 KW/m2

In winter the roof is not so much radiated as in summer, the South facade is the most radiated but unfortunately I don't have rooms on this side. The other facades instead are not radiated, in particular the North one, on wich are my bathroom and one side of my mother's bedroom. The streets around my building are very close, so they are not radiated.

WINTER SOLAR STUDY: The scale reaches 111,3 KW/m2

My building has been restructured a couple of years ago so I couldn't post photos of deterioration. It is also covered by bricks, wich are quite resistant to degradation. Maybe one day I will post some picture, but I hope not too soon!
