Building Integrated Solar Active System

The PV panels come from CIS technology, the most economical, ecological solar energy solutions in the world. This technology ingredients are copper, indium and selenium (together with gallium and sulfur).

CIS right now offers two useful innovations for the domain of architecture:

1. the first is the possibility to generate energy through diffused radiation, by offering new design freedom because all external surfaces of the building are potentially available;

2. the second is customization: form and color of the panels can now be adjusted in order to fit and be fully embedded into the architectural concept.

This shift makes PV systems move from being just a technical addition to become a mean of expression for architects.

The building integration has been considered referring to:

Aesthetical Integration : the whole house is based on the contrast between low-tech and hi-tech construction. The low-tech part is based on a wood frame, filled with local heavy materials, insulated and enveloped by artcraft wicker. The external high tech is the PV envelope that shadows both the roof surface and East facade of the low tech box with a shiny image. To enhance the integration we are studying different colors of PV panels. Some CIS can be produced in paste colors (red, blu, green) or screen printed with colored dots or stripes.

-  Constructive Solution : the photovoltaic roof works as a big shading device, helping in modulate day-lighting, resulting from a careful tuning of cantilevers to protect the glass facade from direct radiation, and calibrate architectural image.
