MED IN ITALY COMES HOME

After the green architecture Olympics podium at the Solar Decathlon Europe 2012,

the Mediterranean house will be assembled at the Roma Tre University Campus

Three months after the Solar Decathlon Europe 2012 podium in Madrid, Med in Italy, the Mediterranean sustainable house, is back in Rome. Following a long presentation tour as a protagonist for both press and public during the main Italian events dedicated to sustainability, the outstanding eco architectural project returns to Rome.

Last September 29th 2012 in Madrid, Med in Italy conquered the third place at the Solar Decathlon Europe competition, considered as the Olympics for sustainable architecture.  Project’s strengths were innovation and sustainability, features that traditionally distinguish Italian research and environmental design and that granted the gold in the sustainability competition during the ten Spanish challenges. Third places followed in communication and raising social awareness, in architecture and energy balance.

During the past two months, Med in Italy completed a long presentation tour open to the press and the public. The project was presented in some of the most important green fairs in Italy: last October Med in Italy opened its natural and biodegradable patio at the SAIE International Fair in Bologna; then at the Smart City event organized in the same City and at the Made Expo in Milan. November was a very busy month too for the Italian team, who attended Florens 2012 – The International Cultural and Environmental Heritage Week, as well as Energy Days 2012 in Brescia. The last leg of the Italian tour is scheduled for January 2013 when Med in Italy will become part of the Roma Tre University campus life, where students and professors will continue to monitor the house functioning during different seasons and it will be used as a community open space.

We are very proud to finally show the house within its original University contest where it was designed and it will be used to teach junior sustainable architecture students- declares Chiara Tonelli, Med in Italy team leader- All of this was possible thanks to our sponsor who closely followed the entire experience and the researchers coming from three different Italian Universities, who had been working for almost two years to develop the successful project”.

Med in Italy in the campus is an opportunity that could also facilitate future Italian participations to the Solar Decathlon Europe 2014 edition. This next competition will be held in France, the winning Country in Madrid with the Canopea project.
