Cherry Plum Pissardii trees are among the most popular trees for urban plantation, for they are good-looking and very resistant to pollution. Here in Rome - and especially in the Prati-Vittorie area - there are entire streets filled with ornamental cherry plums. Here's a bright example reported in the pictures: Viale Mazzini, next to the famous post building by Armando Titta and typical "barocchetto" housings.
They are easily recognizable thanks to their dark red deciduous leaves (meaning that they lose their foliage during winter). Their size is also very good for urban treelines (up to 6-10 metres tall, and only seldom they reach 15m). Another quality that is very appreciated is their flowering, that spreads early in spring (sometimes in February, too) and shows off small white or pink flowers. They also make yellow or red drupe fruits, that in some cases are edible and are thought to help cure cancer.
PARAMETRIC TREE ANALYSIS WITH VASARI
-I started a New Family on Vasari;
-I adjusted the measurement units (Manage);
-I've created levels on several heights, according to the shape and size of the tree: for example, the ground base, or the trunk's base, at level 0;
-I modeled a circle (Circle Tool) on the ground level, representing the section of the trunk, and I put a dimension (Radial Dimension tool) on it;
-I've created another circle of the same size on the upper level, using the Align tool, representing the end of the trunk, and created its mass, which is now "locked" within two layers;
-I've created three more circles on the upper levels, representing the lower part of the foliage, its top, and its "equator", using the same method as above; I helped myself with a vertical line;
-Then I created the foliage's mass; to do so, I selected both the bottom and the top circles and joined them using the Create Mass tool; I then used the Add Profile tool to add the maximum radius as a parameter; in order to make this work, I had to restart the whole process on a different laptop, since mine didn't support the Create Mass function for some reason (I tried three times!); on the new computer, I had a very good response and Vasari worked perfectly; here's what I finally got:
