prima esercitazione- I-beam

For the first exercise I decided to create I-beam 3d model.

First, I opened new family Metric Generic Model floor based. I created new reference lines in front elevation: two on edges and one in the middle of I-beam. After, I made the dimentions between reference line equal and created horizontal reference line. Then I drew the profile of I-beam with Extrusion.

Next I changed depth of extrusion from 250 to 3000mm. I made my dimensions permanent and created some new. I added parameters 'largezza' and 'altezza' and changed the sizes of dimensions.

In the end I added material for the I-beam: steel s460.

ciao!

thanks for your post!

It seems that you defined two distances (200)
and then a parameter for the sum of the two (400, larghezza).
So... it's overconstrained. Did you try to change the value of the parameter?

Remember: first test the variation (by changing manually the value)
and THEN, if it works... set the parameter.

So, give it a try.
it might be that you will have to change your parameterization
and maybe use the one whe have shown at the class (a parameter
what you called 200, applied to both distances, and then a parameter
that's twice the measure. So 200 will become larghezza/2. And you
will enter larghezza -one parameter- and get both dimensions change)

Remember: always test variation.
and then one question: better to have TYPE of INSTANCE parameters
for the I beam dimensions?

good work,
S.C.

yes, i checked it-worked :) i've just forgot to add this dimension :P maybe instance is better to have many variations of I-beam (unstandard) if i understood it well...
