For this work, I've decided to choose the “Platanus x acerifolia”, type of tree quite common in Rome, often used as frame for avenues, or as shade tree.
It is a hybrid cross between American sycamore (P. occidentalis) and Oriental planetree (P. orientalis). The original cross may have occurred as early as the 1640s, after which this tree became widely planted in London and other major European cities because of its perceived tolerance for urban pollution.

The Platanus in Rome
As I've outlined before, the Platanus appear in many avenues in Rome, including Viale di Trastevere and Circonvallazione Gianicolense, near our project site. But, if we have to give an example of his use in the city, we absolutly have to mention the Lungotevere, where the foliage of these trees create a suggestive scenery.
