Windows Solar Radiation - Project and Testaccio

Hi guys, and welcome back on my blog, this will be my last post, it was a pleasure walk with you, special guest today is my project partner Margeaux Fiorillo.

So, today we want to propose you the windows solar analisys for our project and for my home in Testaccio. We start analysing the normal solar radiation on our porject for determine the best prospect and give you a global situation (unfortunalty this is not the final version of our project because we havent' yet finished to adjust it).

Here the situation for my house in Testaccio:

Contest:

This is my building house in Testaccio and i want to study my appartament that is view inside the internal court yard courtyard, 70 m² with only north exposure that means a lot of radiation problems in Summer and in Winter (Autumn and Spring too, indeed). Try to explane better:

This is my internal courtyard facade, Let's go to analyse it:

Theese are 2 photo of my facade's shadows in Summer at 09:00 and 12:00 o'clock, as we can see, after 11:00 my appartament become completly dark because the sun disappear back to the building and it doesn't rejoin until the next morning, that's mean that the highest warm hours of the day my appartament is in the shadow, but because i have only northen view i haven't possibility to change the air inside and that means that i havevery warm temperature inside my chambers in Summer.

the situation does not improve in Winter:

This is the situation at 09:00 and 12:00 o'clock in Winter: shadows, shadows, shadows! That's mean cold! a lot of cold in winter and darkness inside chambers, because the sun never compare on my facade. I often have to turn on the light in order to lunch!

The data I have collected with Solar Radiation fully confirm all that has appeared from the preliminary analysis of the shadows:

Autumn Solar Radiation Analysis (Cumulative):

As we can see we have an extremly low exposure values in Winter that confirm my sensation: low solar exposure = very cold winter; while in summer the values are slightly higher, but the facade is very well shaded, even if the position in which it is not conducive to the exchange of air and this results in a substantial increase in internal temperature, although there is no direct solar radiation.

I report some photos of my appartament for better explane what i tryed to study:

Spring - 09:07 - Internal Courtyard Balcony

Spring - 15:57 - Internal Courtyard Balcony

Spring - 18:20

Spring - 12:20

Here the situation for our Project in Trastevere Train Station Zone:

1) Winter Global Solar Analysis

Summer Global Solar Analysis:

From this situation we dicided to study the south-east prospect windows under the peak analysis for calculate the maximum energy load for the termal system and under the annual average analysis for determine how much energy a refrigerant system have to produce:

South-East Prospect:

Start with peak analysis for summer and winter:

1) Summer Peak Analysis:

2) Winter Peak Analysis:

3) Annual Average Analysis:

As we can see, our situation determine an exploit value peak of 0.45 kWh/m² in summer on all window,  placing our building in the band "Climate House B" (see this) without any shading devices;

Same situation we have in Winter, but the exploit value peak is 0.41 - 0.34 kWh /m².

The average annual value, however, is between 0.08 kWh /m² and 0.11 kWh /m² and this puts homes in the southeast facade in the band "Climate House A" without any shading devices.

Also we studied a part of the internal courtyard for compare our dates with my house:

Winter Solar Radiation Analysis (Cumulative):

The next step to what we are thinking is to equip our building of a system of brisoleil to further mitigate the direct impact of the sun on the facades. Here's an example of what we wanted to adapt our building, but due to problems related to a delay in the design we have not yet agreed:
