In this exercise I designed a common laurel tree (Prunus laurocerasus). It is an evergreen species. its usually small to medium-sized, growing about 10 metres tall. it has a rather dense foliage that doesn't allow the passage of light. and gives a very nice shadow during the summertime.
The example that I was studying for this exercise grows near "stazione tiburtina". allthough there is a lot of traffic, there are a lot of trees and people enjoy their shadow while waiting for the buses. this example was rather small one, about 5m. (I estimated its height from the broken sign beside it).
To design the tree with Vasari I had to open a new family: NEW-> FAMILY-> CONCEPTUAL MASS-> MASS
then I added more some more levels for the trunk and the crown.
I started to model the mass with drawing a circle for the trunk.
With the commend Allign Mass I made the trunk as high as the first level. To do so I clickt first on the level line and than on the mass.
now I added some parameters as the height and the ratio of the trunk, to realize a “parametric model” that makes it possible to change dimensional parameters as the height and the volume easily.
Then I modeled the rest of the tree always starting with cycles that i extruded them to cylinders and added the parameters
With the commend MODIFY-> X-RAY-> ADD PROFILE I modeled the volumes more precisely
this is the result:
