Barrisol project for a conferece hall
I would like to introduce in my blog the project for an acoustic space i'm studying with my friend Mario Leonori. I'm receiving an aid by Stefano and Elisa Conversano to develop the theme, from now on news about the project will be published here.
My role is essentially to design and study the space, both on acoustic and constructive and dimensional aspect.
1_theme
The theme is to give acoustic features to an old hangar, whose walls and roof (sandwich panels of sheets metal plus insulating core) does not allow the sound to be absorbed; thus in the space there is a tiresome near-echo effect.
Another important feauture of the project is the use of the plastic material BARRISOL, a PVC shape-memory blaket . By this material, mario had the idea of a "torsioned" space, and for that he asked me to help him.

2_torsion
To develop the idea of torsion, i realised a first revit model, whose main content is to have a lofted solid, whose base are two squares which rotates by the effect of a common law (linear - usual marker structure). The radius of the circle in which a square is inscribed has two important features: it is on the whole inscribed to the profile of the existing structure, and his center and radius vary parametrically since i wnat my circle to get bigger at each step.
We have for this a couple of variations: the torsion and the widening of the whole structure. These variatios are linear and countinuos
I WILL PUBLISH SOON UPDATES ABOUT THIS WORK. In the meantime you can download a paper to have a first idea.
